Here at The Bedford Mom we believe that moms deserve to be recognized and celebrated! This month we are so excited to feature Jaime Altabet, a mom of two sweet girls.
Tell us about yourself!
Hi! I am Jaime. My husband Jeff and I have 2 daughters, Eliza (3y) and Noa (11m) and one parrot, Turtle (age unknown). I am a breast radiologist at the Elliot, which is what brought us to Bedford from the NYC area a few years ago. We love living here– we’ve made so many friends, love the beautiful scenery during all four seasons, and enjoy the proximity to Boston, the lakes, mountains and the coast. We live close to Joppa Hill farm and love to visit the animals, especially Dundee.

Tell us about your work!
I work as a breast radiologist at the Elliot. We recommend all average risk women begin getting screening mammograms at the age of 40. You may see me if you get called back for more imaging from your screening mammogram, feel a lump, have a breast issue, or need to have a biopsy. We have a high risk clinic that pairs women with higher than average risk for breast cancer with a provider. These women see a provider on the same day as their screening mammogram, which we read on that day and do any additional workup that needs to get done all in one visit. Higher than average risk women may also be eligible for screening MRI. I love what I do and believe the Elliot Breast Health Center does a great job at putting the patient first.
What are your favorite local restaurants?
Rig-A-Tony’s! I was so sad when they moved from the Inside Scoop Parking lot. Fortunately, they have another location right near my nail salon, Exotic 9 nails in Derry, so we get eggplant parm calzones every 3 weeks when I get my manicure and pedicure!
What is your favorite way to practice self-care?
I love to workout– I enjoy orangetheory, running, spinning, weight training. Once my kids get older, I hope to play more tennis at Bedford Bluffs and Hampshire Hills. And I obviously prioritize my monthly manicure and pedicure!
What brought you to Bedford?
It was spring 2020, middle of covid, and I randomly saw a job listing for a breast radiologist in NH. My medical school roommate was an ED doctor at the Elliot and she was always posting beautiful pictures. So I applied, we checked out the area, and everything felt meant to be.

What is your favorite thing about Bedford?
We’ve found it really easy to meet people and make friends because everyone is so welcoming. Many of the people we’ve met are also newish to the area so everyone is ready to put themselves out there.
What are your favorite local spots in town?
We love Joppa Hill farm and frequent it often. We are members of Bedford Bluffs and really enjoy the summers there. Hampshire Hills is a great spot for winter indoor swimming– it feels like being on a vacation and swimming at the hotel pool.
What is your best piece of advice for moms who are new in town?
Just say yes to things. Bookclubs, workout buddies, mani/pedis with friends, mom events. I am terrible at pushing myself to leave the house, especially at bedtime since I still have a baby, but my husband always pushes me to go.
What is your best piece of advice for expecting moms or new moms?
Everything is a phase. And if you are up in the middle of the night, odds are you have at least one other mom friend who is also up in the middle of the night, text them. Or play connections and wordle and hope your baby falls asleep by the time you are done.
