The Bedford Mom of the Month: Luciana Petz

Here at The Bedford Mom, we believe that moms deserve to be recognized and celebrated! This month, we’re so excited to introduce you to Luciana Petz, a devoted mom of four energetic boys (Logan, Mason, Miles, and Liam). Luciana lives in Bedford with her husband Tim and their dog Mila. Originally from Brazil, she grew up in NYC and later lived in Florida before moving to Bedford in 2022 to be closer to specialized care for her son Logan. Alongside being Logan’s primary caregiver, she helps run her family’s remodeling business, True Cut Construction, where her passion for organization, design, and functional living shines. A former attorney turned healthcare advocate after Logan’s diagnosis with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Luciana also co-founded the nonprofit “Firefighters on a Mission” to support first responder families. She loves Bedford for its strong sense of community and the way people truly show up for one another, and she’s grateful every day to call this special town home. Learn more about her below!

Tell us about yourself!

My name is Luciana Petz and I live in Bedford with my husband Tim, our 4 rambunctious boys, Logan (14), Mason (11), Miles (8) and Liam (6), and our dog, Mila (3). Besides my most important job of being a mom, I am also my son Logan’s primary caregiver and I help my husband run our residential remodeling company, True Cut Construction. I was born in Brazil, grew up in NYC, and was living in Florida until 2022, when we moved to Bedford to be closer to Logan’s team of doctors in Massachusetts. We are also very proud of starting a nonprofit called “Firefighters on a Mission” helping First Responder families affected by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy after Logan was diagnosed with Duchenne in 2015.

Tell us about your work!

I started my career as an attorney and worked for one of Florida’s largest law firms. When Logan was 7 months old, I decided to go back to school to earn my Master’s in Law Firm Management. However, just after earning my degree, Logan was diagnosed with Duchenne and my focus shifted from career mom to healthcare advocate traveling the country (and even internationally) seeking medical treatment and clinical trials for Logan. Since then, I have worked as a consultant for a number of law firms in the areas of recruiting, professional, practice, and business development, and numerous dimensions of leadership. Lately, as our remodeling company grows, I have taken a more active role in the business and have even started taking some space planning courses to be able to better assist our clients with their remodeling needs. For those who know me well, know that I’m obsessed with anything to do with real estate (I also have a FL real estate license), space planning, organization, and design/remodeling. I’m a true believer that an organized, functional home leads to a less chaotic family life. And boy, do we need that in our family!

What are your favorite local restaurants?

Copper Door for a late-night date night with my husband after the kids go to bed (thank you Copper Door for staying open late!); Puerto Vallarta Mexican Grill for family dinners (since my kids love Mexican food!); and now we’re super excited that we have a great pizza place to go to and eat as a family in the recently opened Otto.

What is your favorite way to practice self-care?

A few years ago, I started getting my nails done regularly. It only takes 1 hour of my time (since time is such a commodity these days!) and it makes me feel as if one part of my body always looks nice. You may see me around town with my hair up, no make up on, and comfy clothes, but my nails will always look nice! Lol! When I feel like really spoiling myself, I get a relaxing facial from a local, Bedford mom.

What brought you to Bedford?

When Covid hit in 2020 and Logan’s hospital didn’t allow us to travel here to see his doctors and clinical trials started preferring patients who could drive instead of fly to appointments, it was a no-brainer that we needed to relocate our family to the Northeast. I always dreamt of raising my children in the Northeast where I grew up and this was the push we needed. After a lot of researching, we narrowed our home search to Southern NH and ended up finding the home we were looking for in Bedford. We feel so blessed to have landed in Bedford by chance!

What is your favorite thing about Bedford?

The people! After Logan’s diagnosis, naturally we began to lose contact with some family and friends as our family dynamic changed and Logan’s disease progressed quicker than expected. But the people we have met in Bedford not only did not allow us to feel alone, but they embraced us in a way we had not been embraced by a community in such a short amount of time. They showed up when we needed them and continue showing us that community is much more than a place where you live but a place that gives you a sense of belonging. And for that, we are SO thankful!

What are your favorite local spots in town?

The library is one of my favorite places. It has the quintessential, small town feel that I always dreamt of after living in large, urban areas. I also love to drive around town and appreciate all the serene areas that Bedford has to offer, while providing the convenience of all its shopping stores and proximity to a major urban area like Boston.

What is your best piece of advice for moms who are new in town?

Get out there and meet people! There are so many wonderful people in this town – people who truly care to make this community a tightknit community that focuses on family and helping out our neighbors. In the short 3.5 years we’ve lived here, I have seen this amazing community truly come together for those in need and I’m so proud to have played a small part in some of these community actions.

What is your best piece of advice for expecting moms or new moms?

Don’t sweat the small stuff! I remember how upset I was when I found out that I wouldn’t be able to breastfeed my kids since I didn’t produce enough milk. In hindsight, it was such a trivial thing in the grand scheme of life, which created unnecessary stress and prevented me from enjoying some joyful moments. With that being said, enjoy every single moment! The days may feel long, but the years will certainly feel short.
