The Bedford Mom of the Month: Vickie Zgonis

Here at The Bedford Mom, we believe that moms deserve to be recognized and celebrated! This month we are so excited to introduce you to Vickie Zgonis. As the second-generation owner of Pizza Bella, Vickie has carried on her family’s legacy with heart, hard work, and gratitude for the community that has supported them for over three decades. Beyond the restaurant, she pours her energy into her son’s school, volunteering in meaningful ways, and giving back through charitable work around town. Her love for Bedford shines through everything she does, from cheering on high school sports to enjoying favorite spots like Joppa Hill Farm, Pulpit Rock, and the Library. Tell us about yourself!

My name is Vickie Zgonis. I grew up in Bedford and recently moved to New Boston with my husband, Brandon, our son, Dean, and our sweet pup, Carmella. I’m proud to be the second-generation owner of Pizza Bella. My mom and I took over the business after my dad passed away 12 years ago, and three years ago I had the joy of helping her retire. Bedford holds such a special place in my heart. I’m incredibly grateful for this amazing community, for everyone who has supported our family over the years, and for all the wonderful friendships I’ve made through The Bedford Mom.

Tell us about your work!

I am the proud sole owner of Pizza Bella, where I oversee all day-to-day operations and am fortunate to have an incredible team; some of whom have been with us for over 25 years. One of my greatest joys is employing local high school students, watching them grow from shy teenagers at their very first job into confident, capable young adults. Beyond the restaurant, I stay actively involved in my son’s school as part of the Parent Association, among other things; serving as head of the parent coordinators who support teachers and classrooms in meaningful ways. I also enjoy giving back to the community by volunteering both my time and my business to a variety of charitable organizations throughout town.

What are your favorite local restaurants?

Some of my favorite places to go are The Bedford Village Inn, The Bagel Cafe and Simply Delicious.

What brought you to Bedford?

I grew up in Bedford. It’s an amazing place to be.

What is your favorite way to practice self-care?

I love treating myself to a spa day and enjoy traveling, but sometimes the best form of self-care is as simple as a coffee date with a close friend. The laughter, support, and joy I feel when spending time with my village truly fills my cup.

What is your favorite thing about Bedford?

I love Bedford for so many reasons, but a few that stand out most are the way the community comes together to support the high school sports, the wonderful friendships I’ve built through The Bedford Mom, and the incredible support our town has shown Pizza Bella over the past 34 years.

What are your favorite local spots in town?

What is your best piece of advice for moms who are new in town?

Take the leap and jump in with both feet. It can feel hard at first to make new friends, but start by simply saying hello. Whether it’s to a neighbor outside, a fellow mom at Whole Foods, or someone at the library or a coffee shop, those small moments can open the door to wonderful connections.

What is your best piece of advice for expecting moms or new moms?

Another mom once told me, “The nights are long, but the years are short,” and I don’t think truer words have ever been spoken. The newborn stage can feel overwhelming at times, but remember your village is here, always ready with open ears or open arms, depending on what you need. And when help is offered, take it even if you don’t think you need it in that moment. You’ll be grateful you did when you look back down the road.
