Here at The Bedford Mom we believe that moms deserve to be recognized and celebrated! This month we are proud to feature Ashley Elias, a devoted mom of three girls who is a very active member in our local community.
Tell us about yourself!
Hi everybody! My name is Ashley and I live in town with my husband Adam and our three girls, Liliana (9), Vivienne (7) and Genevieve (4.5). We have a sweet tuxedo kitty named Max and two guinea pigs named Cleopatra and Charlotte. I primarily stay at home with my girls but I also work per diem as a medical speech pathologist with adults in the hospital setting. I have moved a bunch, both as a kid and as an adult and have lived in 9 different states. We moved to Bedford in 2018 to be closer to family and to enjoy all of the wonderful things NH has to offer! I love being outside with my kids, gardening, reading, volunteering in the community and spending time with friends and family.

Tell us about your work!
I originally wanted to be a teacher when I entered college but discovered speech pathology while volunteering with the Special Olympics in my senior year of high school. My goal was to work with children but I was offered an internship with adults in the hospital setting while I was in graduate school and I have never looked back! Speech Pathology in the acute care setting looks very different than what most people think. I primarily evaluate and treat swallowing, speech, language, cognition and voice disorders. I love helping people feel better and regain something that they lost. I feel lucky to be able to work per diem so that I can primarily stay home with my girls and hope to be able to dedicate more time to my career in the future.
What are your favorite local restaurants?
Some of my favorite restaurants in Bedford are Inside Scoop, La Belle Winery, Tuckers and the Purple Finch.
What is your favorite way to practice self-care?
My favorite way to practice self-care is to have some quiet time to myself or spend time with friends and family. I love reading a good book and taking a long walk while listening to music. I definitely wouldn’t say no to a massage or a facial, but probably don’t do it as often as I should!

What brought you to Bedford?
We moved to Bedford to be closer to family. We love the accessibility to our jobs, outdoor activities and shopping, as well as the great schools.
What is your favorite thing about Bedford?
My favorite thing about Bedford is the people. I have found this community to be friendly and generous. Most people are eager to help those in need!
What are your favorite local spots in town?
Our favorite spots in town are the library, Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s, BYPC for school and classes, as well as the town park.
What is your best piece of advice for moms who are new in town?
One piece of advice that I have for new moms in town is to get involved in the things that interest you and your kids! Join the community social media groups, as they have a lot of information about what is going on in town and they are a great place to ask questions!
What is your best piece of advice for expecting moms or new moms?
I have learned so much during my journey as a Mom and still have so much to learn! So far, my best piece of advice is to be kind to yourself. Nobody is perfect and we all make mistakes even when we try our hardest. Reflect on how you would have handled a situation differently, apologize if needed and do better next time. I guarantee that you are doing much better than you think you are!
