The Bedford Mom of the Month: Jessie Gilcreast

Here at The Bedford Mom we believe that moms deserve to be recognized and celebrated! This month we are proud to feature Jessie Gilcreast, a mom of two, who gives back to the Bedford community through her work at Bedford High School, The Educational Farm at Joppa Hill, and more. Learn all about her below!

Tell us about yourself!

I have old roots in Bedford. My great grandmother had a farm in Bedford in the early 1900’s and
my parents built their first house in 1974. My mother is a local artist in town, she’s painted many local landmarks including the painting that hangs above the fireplace at the Bedford Village Inn. I grew up in town and moved back to town about ten years ago. I’ve been the School Librarian at Bedford High School for ten years and love to be a part of our school community. In my free time I am a volunteer at the Educational Farm at Joppa Hill and my creative outlet is making fused glass where I am a member of the NH Made
community.

Tell us about your work!

For five years I was an elementary school librarian in Manchester while my husband was a
police officer in Manchester. Once in Bedford, I was hired at Bedford High School and my
husband went to work for Sig Sauer. I love my role as the School Librarian, every day is different
and I work with the entire faculty and all of the curriculum. It keeps me on my toes and makes
everyday fun. I am also the Yearbook Advisor, Class of 2025 Advisor, Ski & Ride Advisor,
Bulldogs of Bedford Coordinator, and Bedford Handmade Fair Coordinator.

What are your favorite local restaurants?

We have so many options close to us now! When we eat out we love the Copper Door for a nice
sit down dinner. We love takeout from Bella or picking up a quick meal from the Wicked Good
Butchah are our go-tos.

What is your favorite way to practice self-care?

Ummmm, that’s not my strength. But I do love nights out with my girlfriends to help me recenter
myself when I need it. My glasswork is also an outlet for me to be creative and decompress.

What brought you to Bedford?

Once we had kids and wanted to find a community to settle down, we looked all over but settled
here because my parents are still here and we wanted to be close to them.

What are your favorite local spots in town?

I love the Educational Farm at Joppa Hill. We’re so fortunate to have a free farm that can be
enjoyed 365 days a year, that’s very unique to our community.

What is your best piece of advice for moms who are new in town?

Bedford can be a tough town since we don’t have a town center where people walk and gather.
Get involved in youth sports or some of our local nonprofits (we have quite a few) and you’ll find
your peeps!

What is your best piece of advice for expecting moms or new moms?

Don’t feel the pressure of keeping up with anyone. Find your tribe and do you.
